How Do Parents Deal With Adolescence ?
| Leading adolescent children toward responsible adulthood is the real test of parenthood. Adolescent children are on the verge of ending childhood and stepping into the world of adulthood. |
|
During this transition phase, they undergo important psychological development and are in a constant search for an independent identity of their own. They want to be treated as adults, want to make independent decisions and crave for privacy.
The best way to make a teenager understand his / her duties is to lead by example. Once a child starts to adore his parents, he / she tends to change his / her ways and follow their footsteps.
Parents always have the tendency to spend considerable amount of time in trying to correct the mistakes of the child. However, the mental state of an adolescent child is to ascertain their individuality rather than paying heed to a parent’s advice. Hence, it is quite difficult to make them do things that are against their wish.
Teenagers in this age can be easily molded if they are treated like young adults who do not have any experience. Adolescence is the stage where a child acquires all the virtues that are required to build a character. A parent’s primary responsibility is to help the child in developing traits such as faith, hope, charity, judgment, responsibility, caring, courage and self-control.
It is a parent’s responsibility to create an environment that supports positive interactions. A parent should be able to communicate with his child with an open mind, try to hang out with them frequently, be kind towards them, nurture them, respect their thoughts, support their ideas and try to do activities together with them. This will facilitate better communication between the parent and the adolescent child and lead him towards a more responsible adulthood.
