Dating effects Of Single Parenting
| Divorce can be quite a traumatic experience for the parents as well as for the kids. The stigma of divorce and the emotional pain are hard to forget. |
It takes quite some time for the parents to become normal and start dating again. However, when a single parent starts dating there are several eyebrows that get raised because the society empathizes with the children and looks down upon those single parents who look for a life beyond children and their lonely home. As a result of such societal stigma, single parents often tend to become self conscious and wonder whether they should be dating at all or should they forget about personal life and focus only on their responsibility of raising the kids.
Dating of single parents can often inflicts serious emotional injury to the kids involved. They feel abandoned or rejected when they get to know about a new love interest in their parent's life. They are scared that once the parent starts dating somebody, they might not have any more time, affection or interest left for the kids. Therefore, they tend to feel very insecure, and from this insecurity crops up a set of emotions like jealousy towards the parent’s new lover, anger towards the parent and fear about their own future.
The single parent must place the family’s picture clearly in front of the date and explain how important the kids are. One must look for signs from the date like -- “why not put the children in a boarding school” -- avoid those people. Such dates are not suitable for you or for your family. If your date also has kids, allow the kids of both the partners to mingle in the presence of a babysitter or caretaker. This would facilitate bonding and eventually make it easier for you to speak to the kids about your date and telling them how serious you are to begin a new relationship with this person.
